Construction has officially begun today on the new Federally-funded facilities for CareSouth in South Nowra.

CareSouth received $1.52 million to build a new multi-purpose facility containing office space, meeting rooms, training facilities, a call centre, family contact rooms and a community hub.

Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP today joined with CareSouth Executive Officer’s, Renee Knight and Tracy Mayo to celebrate the official start of construction.

CareSouth has been supporting local people for over a decade from their small office in Nowra and Mrs Phillips said she was thrilled that this facility will give them the opportunity to expand, create new jobs and continue focusing on what they do best.

“This will also be a great new space for disadvantaged young people, families and those with a disability to connect with their local community,” Fiona Phillips said.

“Our community has been through so much over the last few months with the summer bushfires and now coronavirus, so it is fantastic to have some good news with the start of construction on this $1.52 million project,”

“We know there is a huge need for improved supports for disadvantaged people in our community. We need more local jobs, more local services, and CareSouth is very well-placed to meet that need,” Mrs Phillips said.

Renee Knight, Executive Officer CareSouth said “CareSouth had it’s start in the Shoalhaven just over 25 years ago, so this Community Hub and Head Office has been a dream for the organisation for quite some time. This project will allow the organisation to continue to provide a positive future for children, young people, individuals and families in the communities they live in,”
