Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP is delighted that indirectly flood impacted businesses in Kangaroo Valley will finally receive support thanks to a $1 million grants program delivered by the Albanese Government.
“For months, I have called for a targeted small business support program to address Kangaroo Valley's unique circumstances. Those requests fell on deaf ears under Scott Morrison but I am pleased to now deliver that support,” Fiona Phillips said.
Local businesses have been crying out for help after multiple flooding events saw several key road closures keep visitors out for months, devastating local tourism-dependent businesses.
But, because many were not directly flood impacted, they had not been able to access financial support - until now.
Mrs Phillips said the Kangaroo Valley Road Closure Small Business Support Grant, which is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and New South Wales governments, will provide grants to small businesses and not-for-profits in the township that experienced a 40 per cent decline in turnover during the month of March.
“Businesses have been telling me that they would soon be forced to close – not because of flood damage, but as a direct result of the road closures. I am hopeful that this package will give local businesses the boost they need,” Fiona Phillips said.
"I encourage all impacted businesses to apply as soon as possible."
The local MP also put the call out across NSW and Australia - “Kangaroo Valley is open, so please come and visit the beautiful South Coast! There is so much to love, and our businesses need your support now.”
Small businesses and not-for-profit organisations which experienced a 40 per cent decline in turnover during the fourth quarter of the 2021-22 financial year, compared to the same period in the 2020-21 financial year, will be eligible for a $10,000 grant.
