Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP is delighted that 17 local organisations have taken a share in $134,500 worth of grants for community projects in our region through the Stronger Communities Programme Round 8.
The Stronger Communities Programme provides essential funding to local community groups and councils for projects that improve community participation and contribute to vibrant communities.
These grants will benefit the community in all sorts of wonderful ways.
Marine Rescue NSW Batemans Bay unit will use $17,000 in funding to upgrade the Marine Rescue facility, including an updated training room.
Kiama Table Tennis Club will use $3,000 in funding to purchase new equipment to cater for their growing membership.
North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels – Jervis Bay and Districts Service will use $5,000 in funding to construct a new covered area and vegetable preparation area.
A total of 17 projects between Kiama and Tuross Head have been funded under the program, including community gardens, sporting facilities, training and facility improvements, upgrades to community infrastructure and creating and improving important community memorials.
Mrs Phillips said she is thrilled to be delivering fantastic projects like this for the local community.
“It really is a delight to be able to fund projects that bring so much joy and benefit our communities,” Fiona said.
“I absolutely love seeing the initiative and drive of local people, I’m consistently impressed with community projects and ideas – there really are so many wonderful things going on in our community,” Fiona said.
“Having spent time talking with volunteers from these organisations, I know it can be a struggle to fund these types of purchases, and I know these organisations make a little bit of funding go a long way. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these grants will have on local people,” Fiona said.
“I want to sincerely thank all our local community groups for everything they do to keep our community active, connected and safe - it makes me so proud to live in our region,” Fiona concluded.
