The Albanese and Minns Governments are building infrastructure back better in our region to make our community more resilient to natural disasters.
Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP, is thrilled to announce that Jamberoo Mountain Road, Foxground Road and Wallaby Hill Road will be improved using $4,497,476 in funding through the Infrastructure Betterment Fund.
The funding will be provided to Kiama Municipal Council and will be used to improve these vital roads through improved drainage, road resealing, pavement reconstruction and embankment stabilisation.
“These roads are critical for Kiama, Jamberoo and the surrounding community, and it is important that they are not only maintained, but improved – I am so happy to provide funding to improve these vital roads,” Fiona said.
The Infrastructure Betterment Fund is focused on building back essential public assets, such as roads, bridges and drainage impacted by the storm and flood events in 2021 and 2022, as well as improve damage caused by the 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires.
Funding will mean assets are repaired to a more resilient standard that can better withstand future natural disasters, while also delivering associated economic, social and productivity benefits. This funding will ensure Jamberoo Mountain Road, Foxground Road and Wallaby Hill Road more resilient into the future.
“I’ve fought hard to have our local roads repaired – this next grant will ensure that these essential roads are stronger and more prepared in the event of future natural disasters or extreme weather,” Fiona continued.
“I’ve listened to locals who said loud and clear that these roads need to be improved and strengthened – I’m happy to be helping to deliver these improvements local people asked for,” Fiona concluded.
Kiama Councillor and Deputy Mayor Imogen Draisma and Councillor Stuart Larkins believe this funding will make a big difference to the community.
“I’m so pleased to hear that the Albanese and Minns Governments is providing much needed funding to Kiama Council for Jamberoo Mountain Road, Wallaby Hill Road and Foxground Road for upgrading the roads,” said Clr Larkins.
“Since being elected, I have been in contact with local people and families who live on these roads and I know firsthand their desire for improving the road conditions, road drainage and embankment stabilisation,“ concluded Clr Larkins.
“Ensuring that Wallaby Hill Rd is resilient is vital for local residents and the region. Council welcomes the funding from the Albanese and Minns Governments which recognises the need for further investment in country roads.” Said Deputy Mayor, Clr Imogen Draisma.
