The Albanese Labor Government is celebrating the achievements of Australia’s public TAFE system on National TAFE Day, 6 September.

For decades, TAFE has been a highly regarded educational institution which has supported and provided opportunities for individuals, communities and employers.

The Albanese Labor Government understands the importance of TAFE and the role that it will continue to play to give Australians the skills they need for the careers and opportunities of the future.

In the 15 months since the federal election, the Albanese Labor Government has delivered on its commitments to place TAFE at the heart of our vocational education and training (VET) sector.

The Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, said as a former TAFE Teacher, I know that TAFE plays such a critical role in helping people to upskill and pursue career opportunities.

“After a decade of mismanagement, Labor has put TAFE back at the heart of vocational education and training,” said Fiona Phillips.

“All over Australia, TAFE is helping Australians to gain new skills and train for the jobs of the future. In fact, we’ve now seen over 214,000 enrollments occur under Labor’s Fee-Free TAFE policy, far surpassing our goal of 180,000.

“I have seen first-hand what a difference Fee-Free TAFE is making for students across our region”, Fiona continued.

“On this National TAFE Day I want to congratulate our local TAFE Teachers and staff at our local TAFE campuses, that always go above and beyond to train people”, Fiona said.

Minister for Skills and Training, Brendan O’Connor MP, said that National TAFE Day was an opportunity to help raise perceptions of TAFE and the opportunities it gives students to find good, secure employment.

“Each and every day, Australians are training for new jobs in early childhood education, nursing, hospitality, construction, accounting and numerous other sectors, thanks to TAFE.”

“Our Fee-Free TAFE policy is improving access to training for jobs that are in high demand.”

“We’re working with the States and Territories to provide a further 300,000 Fee-Free TAFE places from next year,” said Minister O’Connor.
