The Jamberoo Youth Hall just got a little cooler thanks to a $15,000 grant as part of the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.

Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips said the hall, owned by Kiama Municipal Council and managed by community members, was an important meeting place for local groups and residents, including Jamberoo Playgroup.

“I’m so happy to have delivered funding for the Jamberoo community,” she said.

“A new air conditioning unit will bring relief for user groups over summer, and new energy efficient appliances and solar panels will help cut power bills.”

Jamberoo Youth Hall Association committee president Vivienne Marris said the hall was used by a wide range of groups and individuals, with both regular and casual hirers, and provides an affordable and accessible meeting space in the village.

The building needed air conditioning to improve the comfort of all hall users,” she said.

“In the interests of managing our electricity costs, the committee also chose to replace the old fridge and microwave with more energy-efficient appliances, install a shade security screen and blind for the north-facing kitchen window, and adjust the hot water heater so it heated water only when the solar panels were likely to be producing energy.

The grant has enabled the Jamberoo Youth Hall to become a much more comfortable and sustainable facility for the community to enjoy for many years to come.”

The Jamberoo Youth Hall committee is one of nine community organisations across Gilmore that shared in more than $112,000 under Round 9 of the Stronger Communities Program.

Mrs Phillips said she was delighted to help those groups that continue to enhance the local community.

“These organisations support and engage people in our communities, whether that is through sport, music, social activities or keeping us safe,” Mrs Phillips said.

“The Stronger Communities grants deliver small infrastructure projects and equipment that support local organisations and encourage participation.

“I congratulate the nine recipients and thank all the volunteers that give their time and skills to help create vibrant communities on the South Coast.”
