Fiona Phillips, Member for Gilmore, is pleased to announce that the Eurobodalla Shire Council has been successful in their application to upgrade the George Bass Drive and Broulee Road intersection through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.

$2,000,000 in Australian Government Black Spot funding will be provided to construct a roundabout at the George Bass Drive and Broulee Road intersection, this will also include new line marking and improved lighting and signage. $500,000 will also be provided by the Eurobodalla Shire Council towards the project.

This intersection has been notorious for crashes causing death and injuries.

This project is included in the $31.9 million of funding for NSW roads under the Black Spot Program’s 2023–24 funding round.

The Black Spot Program funds safety measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at locations where a number of serious crashes are known to have occurred, or are at risk of occurring.

This intersection upgrade will help to make South Coast Roads safer, and contribute towards reducing serious injuries and deaths on NSW roads.

Locals, workers and tourists use George Bass Drive and Broulee Road daily, and it’s important that this intersection receives this important upgrade.

Fiona Phillips MP is the Chair of the New South Wales Black Spot Consultative Panel, which provides the opportunity for stakeholders to have a say in the project selection process, and ensure that nominations of the highest priority and importance to the local community are recommended for approval.

The New South Wales review panel includes representatives from the Local Government NSW, National Roads and Motorists’ Association, Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia, NSW Police Force, Federation of Parents & Citizens Associations of NSW, Traffic Management Association of Australia and Transport for NSW.
