Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips has launched a new online service while congratulating year 12 students at graduation ceremonies held throughout the electorate.

“It’s been fantastic attending so many school graduations and really heart-warming to hear about what our local students have planned for the next chapter of their lives,” Mrs Phillips said.

“As they head towards the HSC exams, I wish all the students well and hope they take a bit of time away from the books over the school holidays to relax and enjoy the outdoors in our beautiful local area.”

Mrs Phillips has launched her first digital School Leavers’ Kit to coincide with the end of year functions and said it was an extremely practical resource for young people.

“For anyone about to leave school, it can be a bit daunting. We all know there’s so much to do and learn as you move into that world of ‘adulting’, so this online flip book is really useful, and it’s super easy to use,” she said.

“My School Leavers’ Kit has heaps of info for young people, whether they’re applying for a job, starting an apprenticeship, going to university or TAFE, or even taking a gap year to see the world.

“There’s useful tips, web links and info to help them as they head out into the big, wide world.”

Mrs Phillips said the kit included all sorts of information, from applying for a passport, setting up a MyGov account and doing a tax return to enrolling to vote, as well as education and training options like supported Commonwealth university places and fee-free TAFE.

“Leaving school can be stressful and overwhelming, so the kit also has links to help with Medicare, accessing mental health services and how to get help when it’s needed most,” she said.

“I really hope all our wonderful and inspiring year graduating students, find this kit useful, and I wish them all the best for the upcoming HSC exams and as they begin the next exciting chapter in their lives.”
