DISASTER SUPPORT AVAILABLE ONCE AGAIN FOR FLOOD-IMPACTED LOCALS

Fiona Phillips MP has welcomed the quick availability of the Disaster Recovery Payment and Disaster Recovery Allowance in the Kiama and Shoalhaven local government areas from tomorrow following yet another intense weather event for the South Coast.

The Disaster Recovery Payment will provide payments of $1000 per adult and $400 per child in flood-impacted households, while the Disaster Recovery Allowance can help people who have lost income for a period of up to 13 weeks.

The Disaster Declaration by the Australian Government on Monday night has also provided support to the councils in their recovery efforts, as well as made concessional loans available for local farmers, small businesses, not-for-profit organisations and sporting clubs to help them recover.

“Sadly, we have all been through this enough times now to know how crucial it is to get this support out there quickly and I am pleased to see that happen under the Albanese Government,” Fiona Phillips said.

“The compounding impact of the last few years is really hurting people and I know many are feeling disaster fatigue,”

“I encourage everyone impacted by this latest flooding event to seek the available help as soon as possible,” she said.

Fiona Phillips also reminded local people that mental health support is available for those who need it.

“I will continue doing all I can to ensure that everyone is getting the help they need, when they need it,” Mrs Phillips said.
