Young people across the region are invited to put their ideas into a speech to be read out in Parliament by Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips.

Anyone aged under 25 can enter the 2026 ‘Raise Our Voice in Parliament’ competition, including school and uni students, apprentices, young workers, sportspeople, job seekers and community volunteers.

Mrs Phillips has read out speeches written by young people for the past two years and is looking forward to receiving this year’s entries.

“This is a great initiative and a fantastic way for young people to have their voices heard on the national stage,” she said.

“I really encourage young people from all backgrounds and all sectors of our community to put their passions, ideas and concerns on paper.

“It’s a really great way for young people interested in improving their communities and to shine a spotlight on things that are important to them.”

More than 500 young people have had their speeches read out in Federal Parliament and yours could be next.

Mrs Phillips said speeches should aim to be around 200 words and address the question: “What is one big issue shaping your future, and what is a meaningful action you want Parliament to take on it?”

“I am excited to see what young people see as the big issues their community, our region and our country,” she said.

“And I look forward to amplifying their ideas and their passions in parliament.”

Speech submissions are open until 7 August 2026 and the winning Gilmore entry will be read out in October.
