Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP, is thrilled that the Flagstaff Group has received $8000 dollars in funding through the Stronger Communities Programme Round 8.

Flagstaff has used the funding to support the development of a text-to-voice function for their EMBER app. The EMBER app equips individuals living with disability with strategies, information, and skills to prepare for bushfires and other natural disasters.

Fiona met with members of the Flagstaff family to celebrate the funding announcement, and to see the EMBER app first-hand.

“Flagstaff is such a wonderful organisation. They consistently think of and execute fantastic initiatives – and I’m pleased I’ve been able to support them along the way,” Fiona said.

“It is so important that every person in our community is as prepared as possible in the event of a natural disaster. Flagstaff is playing a crucial role in this process,” Fiona continued.

“It is an absolute pleasure to support an organisation like Flagstaff that does so much to support our community,” Fiona concluded.

CEO of Flagstaff Rodney Von Clark said that the money has gone a long way.

“This funding has allowed Flagstaff to make its EMBER Emergency App more accessible through text-to-voice” Rodney said.

“Flagstaff is also using the funding to develop an anxiety app to help vulnerable people have strategies to keep calm during an emergency,” Rodney concluded.

The Stronger Communities Programme provides essential funding to local community groups and councils for projects that improve community participation and contribute to vibrant communities.
