Two dangerous roads in Kiama will be substantially improved thanks to the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP has announced.

Kiama will receive a total of $159,000 to install safety measures at Bong Bong Street/Railway Parade, and Crooked River Road under the program.

“We see far too many crashes on our local roads, and I am delighted to see some funding go towards fixing these notorious Kiama roads,” Fiona Phillips said.

The Black Spot Program funds safety measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at locations where a number of serious crashes are known to have occurred, or are at risk of occurring.

Fiona Phillips was recently announced as the Chair of the NSW Black Spot Consultative Panel, and she is encouraging local people to nominate the black spots in their area.

“The state of our roads is one of the biggest complaints I hear locally, and our communities deserve to have the safest roads possible. As Chair of the NSW Black Spot Consultative Panel, I am excited to help make roads across NSW safer – especially on the South Coast,” Mrs Phillips said.

“If you know a dangerous stretch of road – nominate it now for consideration by the panel,” she said.

Black Spot Consultative Panels provide the opportunity for stakeholders to have a say in the project selection process, and ensure that nominations of the highest priority and importance to the local community are recommended for approval.

The panel that reviews priorities for the program in New South Wales includes representatives from the National Roads and Motorists’ Association, the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia, NSW Police Force, the Federation of Parents & Citizens Associations of NSW, the Traffic Management Association of Australia and Transport for NSW.
