Today, the Primary Health Network announced that planning has commenced on an interim headspace for Batemans Bay to commence in the coming weeks.
Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP welcomed news that planning had commenced on an interim headspace service ahead of the full headspace opening at the end of the year.
During the federal election campaign, the Morrison Government matched Labor’s commitment for a full headspace. In response to the bushfire crisis, the government brought forward the plans for the centre to the end of the year.
When the Federal Labor Shadow Cabinet met in Batemans Bay recently, the Shadow Health Minister called on the government to provide a full headspace in Batemans Bay urgently.
“I am very pleased that an interim headspace service will be provided in the Batemans Bay area,” Fiona Phillips said.
“We know that early intervention is key for young people living with mental ill health and I have been calling for a full headspace for Batemans Bay for a long time,”
“After the announcement in January that the service would be brought forward, I wrote to the Minister for Health asking him to ensure that young people could access services in the interim and I am pleased that headspace National has provided some funding for this,” she said.
