Jervis Bay Flyover roadworks will be on hold for two weeks during the busy summer holiday period.

Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips said it was important to minimise traffic interruptions during the school holidays, when thousands of tourists flocked to Jervis Bay.

The project site, at the Princes Highway and Jervis Bay Road intersection at Falls Creek, will shut down from Saturday 21 December 2024 until Monday 6 January 2025.

Outside of these dates including, major earthworks and importing material for embankment construction, bridge foundation and retaining wall work will continue and the entrance to Willowgreen Road will be opened.

The building of road surfaces on parts of the Princes Highway, Jervis Bay Road, the Old Princes Highway and Willowgreen Road will be carried out, and traffic will be shifted to the new eastern roundabout to allow Jervis Bay Road to remain open while major bridge works are in progress.

Mrs Phillips said it was exciting to see work progressing at the site.

“By this time next year, visitors to our area won’t recognise this intersection,”
 she said.

“Roadworks can be frustrating at times, but once the project is complete, we’ll have a much safer intersection and improved traffic flow for locals and visitors.”

During December and January, works will continue on the eastern access road and multi-modal transport facility, as well a sign and barrier installation, electrical relocations and drainage work.

Except during shut down dates, work will be carried out between Monday 2 December 2024 and Friday 31 January 2025 between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays. No work will take place on Monday 27 January 2025.

Where required, night work will be carried out for up to 10 night shifts each month between 6pm and 7am.

During work hours there will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work area is safe. These can include lane closures and reduced speed limits.

Mrs Phillips has welcomed the use of boom gates to assist traffic movements at the intersection during the peak travel periods from Friday 20 December 2024 until Sunday 2 February 2025 between 9am and 5pm.

“It’s really crucial to keep the cars flowing and to avoid those long waits that we know happen every holiday period,” she said.

“The great news is, the new flyover will put an end to all of that!”

Mrs Phillips lobbied for and delivered $100 million Federal funding for the Jervis Bay Flyover project.
