Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP was thrilled to meet with members of the St Johns Ambulance NSW Kiama Combined Division today as they provided first aid services to some of Kiama’s keen netballers.

Fiona met with St Johns Ambulance volunteers at the Kiama Netball Complex to thank them for their important contribution to the Kiama community.

“Being here with the volunteers today, I can really see how organised and effective the St Johns Ambulance Kiama is – I am so pleased I was able to support them to continue to provide these fantastic services,” Fiona said.

The St Johns Ambulance NSW Kiama received $1786 in funding through the 2022-23 round of Volunteer Grants.

“It is just great to be able to support an organisation which so clearly and effectively supports our community,” Fiona said.

“These volunteers are passionate people who offer their time, expertise and energy to improve access to healthcare and provide first aid – and I hope this funding will help them continue to support our community – keep up the good work!” Fiona said

The St Johns Ambulance NSW Kiama will use the funding to supply their volunteers with improved radio equipment. This new equipment will help them to better coordinate their activities.

Volunteer and Officer in Charge of the St Johns Ambulance Kiama Melissa Williamson said that this money will go a long way.

“We’re using this funding to buy radio equipment which allow us to service bigger events. Currently the volunteers need to rely largely on “line of sight”. But, this new equipment will allow us to provide first aid and medical services at bigger events,” Melissa said.

“I’d like to thank Fiona for supporting our organisation, and for giving us the capacity to provide services at bigger events – this money is going to help us, but ultimately it’ll benefit the whole Kiama community,” Melissa concluded.

The Volunteer Grants program provides funding to local community groups and volunteer organisations for projects and equipment that directly benefit their volunteer members.
