Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP has today officially opened the new Moruya Showground kitchen thanks to a $40,000 Australian Government Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant.
Mrs Phillips said the newly upgraded kitchen facilities would help to better prepare the local community for future disasters, while also providing improved facilities for local community gatherings like the Eurobodalla Agricultural Show.
“It is wonderful to be back at the Eurobodalla Show – one of my favourite events on the calendar. Even better to have helped make the kitchen facilities here top notch with a $40,000 Australian Government grant,” Fiona Phillips said.
“We remember all too well that during the bushfires, the showground sheltered more than 2,000 in a facility that was not fit for purpose.”
“I am delighted that this funding is one more step to being better prepared for future disaster events, while at the same time supporting the Show Society in their everyday fundraising and community engagement activities,” she said.
Upgrades to the kitchen include new benches, new equipment and more space. This will mean it can now cater for a greater number of patrons, increasing fundraising opportunities and improving its efficiency. The Eurobodalla District Show Society also secured $40,000 from the Rotary Club to complete the project.

A total of almost $22 million was delivered in the Gilmore electorate under the program. Other projects included almost $1 million for the Mogo Community Recreation Hub, nearly $1.5 million to support the resilience of local children, and almost $630,000 to rebuild the Batemans Bay SES facility.
The Black Summer Bushfire Recovery grants program is part of the now $2.2 billion National Bushfire Recovery Fund and builds on support already provided through a range of other bushfire recovery measures.
Mrs Phillips said she was committed to improving the resilience and preparedness of the local community following the bushfires.
“Ever since the bushfires, I have worked closely with local people and organisations to help deliver on-ground support to those who need it, and I will continue doing all I can to ensure we have the local facilities we deserve,” Mrs Phillips said.
“The Albanese Government is committed to ensuring communities like the Eurobodalla are better prepared for natural disasters and can recover quicker in the future.”
