The South Coast was a major winner in last month’s budget, with millions of dollars delivered for local infrastructure projects across the Shoalhaven.

Included in a long list of projects was $32 million to start pre-planning works on the long-awaited Nowra Bypass.

Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP said she was delighted to deliver on her election commitment. Mrs Phillips stated she had fought to get the Nowra Bypass off the ground for years, after Liberal Governments at a state and federal level failed to prioritise the project.

But the Shoalhaven community continues to be left hanging when it comes to $8 million promised by the NSW Government in April.

In a cynical move, this funding was not included in the last budget the Liberal Government will deliver before the March state election.

At the time, Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Sam Farraway, said he would wait for the Federal Government to provide the funds first.

Yet, three weeks after the Budget was handed down, there has been no word from the NSW Liberals about when they will follow through with this commitment.

“Well Minister – I have delivered on my promise. Now its time for you to deliver yours,” Fiona Phillips insisted.

“The NSW Government betrayed our community by choosing to play politics with our Nowra Bypass.”

“We don’t need words, we need action to get the bypass started now,” she said.

Local people know that we need the bypass desperately, but the reality is that Liberal Governments have ignored our calls for far too long.

“Let’s get the Nowra Bypass started – now,” Mrs Phillips said.

Fiona Phillips is asking local people to sign her petition calling on the NSW Government to release its $8 million commitment for the Nowra Bypass now.
