The Nowra Bypass is now one step closer, with the Australian Government today announcing it will invest a further $65 million to undertake planning and preparatory works. This is on top of $32 million already invested to undertake a planning study.
Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP said the additional funding demonstrates that the Albanese Government is committed to delivering this critical project.
“This is great news for the Shoalhaven community,” Fiona Phillips said.
“I have been at the forefront of the campaign for a Nowra Bypass for years and I am absolutely delighted that the Albanese Government will invest $97 million to get this long-overdue project underway,” Mrs Phillips said.
“Nowra is the gateway to the South Coast and enhancing the flow of traffic will significantly boost our economy, support local businesses, and improve the lives of local people,” she said.
Mrs Phillips was also pleased that the NSW Government finally confirmed it will deliver on the $8 million committed to the project before the Federal election. This brings the total project investment to $105 million.
“Local people know how desperately we need to improve the flow of our Princes Highway. That’s why I am so proud to be delivering millions of dollars in Australian Government funding for projects up and down the South Coast,” Fiona Phillips said.
The Australian Government has also invested $752 million in the Milton-Ulladulla Bypass, $100 million for the Jervis Bay Road interchange, $400 million for upgrades between Jervis Bay Road and Sussex Inlet, and $155 million for the new Nowra Bridge.
“We promised to get the bypass started – and we are making sure that happens,” Fiona Phillips said.
