Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP said she was disappointed at the NSW Government’s attempts to politicise funding for the crucial Nowra Bypass.
NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Sam Farraway, has refused to explain why the $8 million he committed for the bypass during the Federal election was not included in the NSW Government’s recent budget.
Labor’s Fiona Phillips was the first one to make a funding commitment to get the bypass started, later matching the Liberal candidate’s $32 million commitment which was to be supported with $8 million from the state government.
“The Albanese Labor Government will absolutely be delivering on our commitment for the bypass – I promised the community we will get it started, and we will,” Fiona Phillips said.
“I find it astonishing that instead of explaining to our community why the NSW Government has chosen not to honour its commitment, the Minister is playing politics instead,” she said.
Mrs Phillips said she wrote to the Minister and the Member for South Coast, Shelley Hancock, asking why the NSW Government had failed to deliver this funding in the last budget before the NSW Election next year, but is yet to receive a response.
Mrs Phillips has called on the state government to honour its commitment in full.
“I will continue working hard to ensure our community receives the infrastructure funding we deserve, and I would only ask the NSW Government to stop playing politics and do the same,” Fiona Phillips said.
