PHILLIPS WELCOMES START OF CONSTRUCTION

OF NOWRA VETERAN WELLBEING CENTRE

Federal member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, has welcomed the start of construction of the Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre at RSL LifeCare’s operations in Wallace St, Nowra.

The Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre is a much needed centre that Mrs Phillips has championed since before the last election in 2019.

With 5,000 veterans and their families living in the electorate of Gilmore, it is imperative that veterans and their families are given support through all stages of defence and transition through civilian life.

The Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre provides support for veterans in a range of areas including: health; education and skills; housing; social support and connection; employment; income and finance; recognition and respect.

Mrs Phillips thanks local veterans and veterans’ groups, local RSL sub-branches, RSL NSW, and RSL LifeCare that is leading and delivering the centre.

Mrs Phillips also thanks the staff at the temporary Nowra Wellbeing Centre in Nowra Lane, Nowra, who have been keenly advocating for local veterans and managing the build of the new centre.

The Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre, with $5 million in federal funding, is being funded as part of the Federal Government and Department of Veterans’ Affairs commitment to providing wellbeing services to veterans in their local communities.

“I am elated that construction of the permanent home for the Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre will start on 17th January 2022”, Mrs Phillips said.

“We are proudly a defence community and that means looking after our veterans and their families must always be a top priority”, Mrs Phillips continued.

“Much is rightly said about how important good mental health and wellbeing is, and this centre will provide those who have served our country with appropriate support to lead a fulfilling life”, Fiona said.

“I really thank our local veterans, veterans groups, RSL sub-branches, RSL NSW and RSL LifeCare for their continued advocacy over a long period of time to get to this exciting stage of the start of construction of this much needed centre”, Fiona continued.

“I look forward to seeing the Nowra Wellbeing Centre open”, Fiona concluded.
