Worrigee local Nancy Daniels couldn’t understand why her community needed a car to post a letter. So, she embarked on a 10-month labour of love, with a shiny red box at the end of the rainbow.

With a significant increase in housing in the area, and a big local shopping centre, it was surprising that Worrigee residents needed to travel into Nowra just to post a letter.

Nancy first raised her concerns about the lack of Australia Post Box in Worrigee Village with her Federal Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP in January 2022.

The two agreed that it just makes sense to have local posting facilities, and together they put the case to Australia Post.

After months of delays, Nancy and her local MP recently celebrated the arrival of the brand new Australia Post Box outside the Worrigee Shopping Village.

Standing outside the shopping centre together, many people walking by expressed their gratitude and excitement for the new post box.

“How amazing is our community. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how big or small a problem may seem, if it matters to local people, it matters to me,” Fiona Phillips said.

“I just want to thank Nancy for her amazing work and persistence – she saw a need in her community, and she made it happen. That’s our remarkable community spirit, and one of the many reasons I truly love the South Coast.”

“It has been my absolute pleasure to help get this shiny new red box installed in Worrigee,” Mrs Phillips said.

As of last week, Worrigee locals can access the red Australia Post Box in front of Worrigee Shopping Village.
