Federal Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP, has welcomed speculation that the Morrison Government will finally provide some assistance to local farmers struggling with the drought.
Coming from a dairy farming family, Mrs Phillips knows local dairy farmers have been struggling with this government’s inaction on the drought.
“I am pleased to see the Prime Minister is finally starting to listen to what people on the South Coast have been saying for years – we need help with the drought,”
“Our dairy industry is in crisis. When the Prime Minister came to Nowra in his Com Car, guarded by the AFP, he would not even meet with local dairy farmers,”
“Our local dairy farmers deserve better. It is not acceptable for our farmers to be paid less than the cost of producing their milk,” Mrs Phillips said.
Regional Australia needs to see real action and not just more words from the Morrison Government.
The people of the NSW South Coast deserve to have a government that invests in them. The Member for Gilmore welcomes any genuine investment by this government in local dairy farmers.
“I only hope that this isn’t just more talk – we need real investment now,” Mrs Phillips said.
