Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips MP today joined with the Ulladulla community, Shoalhaven City Council, Emergency Services and the families of locals that lost their lives while selflessly protecting the community, to officially open the new memorial obelisk and commemorative plaque at the Ulladulla Civic Centre, thanks to $10,000 of federal funding from the Stronger Community Fund.
“This important event is an opportunity for the community to reflect, thank and remember those who lost their lives while selflessly protecting people in our communities during disasters and emergencies.” Fiona Phillips said.
“The Milton Ulladulla area has had an incredibly tough year after being severely impacted by the bushfires. The recovery process is still ongoing for everyone in the Shoalhaven and this project is an important step.”
“I am pleased to see the Memorial Obelisk and Commemorative Plaque finally happening thanks to this federal grant,” Fiona said.
Mrs Phillips said it was particularly heartening because it commemorates Allan Tull and David Black who tragically died serving our community. These two pilots lost their lives keeping the people of the South Coast safe. Fixed Wing Pilot David Black died in October 2013 and Helicopter Pilot Allan Tull in the August 2018 bushfires. They made the ultimate sacrifice for the local community.
The Stronger Communities Fund provides grants of between $1,000 and $20,000 to local community projects across the Gilmore electorate. They have received thousands of dollars towards great projects like this one with Fiona Phillips’ support.
