Two Shoalhaven community organisations have received federal funding for grassroots wellbeing programs to support local veterans and their families.

Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips said the Shoalhaven Veteran and Family Hub and the Sussex Inlet RSL Sub-Branch had received grants through the Albanese Labor Government’s Veteran Wellbeing Grants Program.

RSL LifeCare Limited has been granted $7,763 to hold two Indigenous engagement workshops at the Shoalhaven Veteran and Family Hub.

“This will provide a fantastic opportunity for local Indigenous veterans and will also promote the role of First Nations veterans and their families in our local community,” Mrs Phillips said.

The Sussex Inlet RSL Sub-Branch will receive $11,365 for upgrades to its memorial hall.

“Work will include upgrades to the hall amenities and improved accessibility for veterans and their families,” Mrs Phillips said.

“I’m proud to support these organisations that play such an important role in helping our local veterans stay connected and support the resilience of their families as well.”

The Veteran Wellbeing Grants Program provides crucial funding to ex-service organisations for community-based projects focussed on building and strengthening social connections, improving general health and wellbeing, and improving veteran ties within their local communities.

Applications for the next round of funding will open later this year.
