SMALL STEPS START BIG THINGS – NATIONAL HEADSPACE DAY – KIAMA NEEDS A HEADSPACE

Federal Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, is today, in this Mental Health Awareness Month, encouraging people to take a moment to pause, celebrate National Headspace Day, thank our mental health workers and again calling for a dedicated Headspace service for Kiama.

Across the electorate of Gilmore, in the last year alone, 988 young people received over 4,000 occasions of care for mental health and wellbeing.

“The COVID pandemic has shown that we can never take the mental wellbeing of our community for granted. With an economy heavily reliant on tourism, however, with shops closed and cafes without customers, many young people have lost income opportunities”, Fiona said.

“The mental health and wellbeing of our young people is too important, so, this Headspace Day, I am again calling on the Federal Government to establish a dedicated Headspace service in Kiama”, Fiona continued.

“I'm extremely passionate about this which is why I have established a petition
allowing the community to share their stories and assist me in making this a reality! Small steps start big things,” Fiona concluded.
